Thesis/Dissertation Committee 심사위원

Number of Committee Members The number of committee members are as below:
- Master's: 3
- Doctoral: 5
The advisor cannot be appointed as the head of the committee for his/her student.
Qualification - Master's: a full-time professor, an adjunct professor who has a doctoral degree, or an equally qualified experienced person. (At least two members must be full-time professors at Soongsil University.
- Doctoral: a full-time professor, or an equally qualified experienced person. (At least two to four members must be full-time professors at Soongsil University.)

Evaluation Process 학위논문 심사방법

The thesis/dissertation committee will conduct an evaluation of the thesis/dissertation as well as an oral interview.

- The evaluation will be held at the time and place specified by the head of the committee.
- Each committee member will evaluate the thesis/dissertation submitted by the applicant by reviewing its topic, validity of research method and contents, and the research outcomes.
- The committee members can ask the applicant to submit additional materials, such as translations and samples if needed for the evaluation.
- The head of the committee will collect each committee member's opinion and submit the evaluation result report signed by the whole committee members to the dean of the graduate school within the prescribed deadline.

Number of Evaluations - Master's: 2 or more (including the preliminary proposal 공개발표)
- Doctoral: 3 or more (including the preliminary proposal 공개발표)
Passing  Score - Master's: If two or more committee members give 70 out of 100 total points, the thesis is approved.
- Doctoral: If 4 or more committee members give 80 out of 100 total points, the thesis is approved.

Re-evaluation

Students whose theses have failed in the evaluation process can re-submit the theses after revision for re-evaluation in one or more semesters later, for only one time.

Printed Thesis/Dissertation Submission

Students who passed the thesis/dissertation evaluation must prepare printed books according to the regulation, and submit the books and the confirmation letter (인준서) signed by the committee members to the graduate school office.
